The Schomburg Center is passionate about representing Caribbean communities in its 91-year mission of celebrating people of African descent across the Diaspora. That’s why we are thrilled to present First Fridays: “Carnival” EditionBack by popular demand, our third annual event returns with a fun-filled activities including steel pan drummers, stilt walkers, mass camp, sponsored tables, and free food for attendees who are encouraged to proudly rep their countries with paraphernalia and flags.

First Fridays guests are invited to check out our wonderful pop-up display, “Caribean History,” sign up for a Schomburg Society membership, and visit the Schomburg Shop—while networking and dancing the night away! Our host for the night will be Dhalimu from Dhali's Closet, along with deejays DJ Slyk and DJ Debbie and special performances throughout the night!

First come, first seated

For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. All registered seats are released 15 to 30 minutes before start time, so we recommend that you arrive early.

Guests

Please note that holding seats in the Langston Hughes Auditorium is strictly prohibited and there is no food or drinks allowed anywhere in the Schomburg Center.
