Between the Lines: Imbolo Mbue and Lola Ogunnaike

Imbolo Mbue’s debut novel, Behold the Dreamers, is the story of one immigrant family from Cameroon whose fates collide with the collapse of financial markets in 2009. Jacqueline Woodson, National Book Award winner, described Mbue’s writing as “startlingly beautiful, thoughtful, and both timely and timeless.” She is among a cadre of new authors adding African stories to the canon of experiences that have shaped the United States. Mbue is a native of Limbe, Cameroon. She holds a B.S. from Rutgers University and an M.A. from Columbia University. A resident of the United States for over a decade, she lives in New York City. Veteran journalist Lola Ogunnaike will moderate the conversation.

Books will be available for purchase from the Schomburg Shop and following the author talk, Mbue will have a book signing.

A leading cultural authority and seasoned media veteran, Lola Ogunnaike has built her decade-long journalism career on a winning combination of onscreen charisma, interview savvy, and creative vision. She has traveled the globe as a writer and a television personality, covering key events in entertainment and popular culture and interviewing an array of luminaries, among them Michelle Obama and Sting.
