The Spencer Collection surveys the illustrated word and book bindings of all periods and all countries and cultures, from medieval manuscripts, Japanese scrolls, and Indian miniatures to monuments in Renaissance printing, illustration, and binding to contemporary livres d'artistes.

No. Please request an appointment through your Special Collections Account or contact us by email at prints@nypl.org.
Are virtual consultations available and are they required before making an onsite research appointment?
Virtual consultations are required to make an appointment to visit the Spencer Collection, but they are also available to researchers who wish to discuss their research plans. Please email us at prints@nypl.org to book a virtual consultation with one of our librarians.
