Summary
  1. The action of the opera is based on the Book of Judges, Chapters 14-16. The Israelites enslaved by the Philistines in Gazza are roused to revolt by their leader Samson. the High Priest of Dagon enlists the support of Delilah, a Philistine woman once loved by Samson but deserted by him in the interest of his divine mission.
