The Schomburg Center's Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Book Division's copy includes NYPL's bookplate of Reference Collection of Negro Literature, as well as various stamps like: "Division of Negro Literature and History;" "Property of the City of New York;" and "The New York Public Library: Circulation Department, 135 Street Branch, 103 West 135th St." which indicate, this item was originally part of the 135 Street Branch's Circulation Department; probably transferred to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer and Lawrence Reddick were the collection librarian & Curator. Imperfect: brittle, faded stamps, NYPL perforated stamp through the title page, bound in red cloth over boards, library binding, and gilt spines. It's also contained manuscript notations or inscriptions from the former owner: "The gift of the worthy __ author to Granville Sharp" {28}A presentation copy from [Mr.] Benezet to the noted philanthropist Granville Sharp: has MSS. notes by Mr. Sharp on front flyleaf: also see pages 22,23, 4, 5-6, 8-9, 30- 31, 50 of the second part.
  2. Copy in Sc Rare B 15-21 (Lapidus Collection) is part of the original Lapidus collection donation in 2015, three quarter brown leather bound with decorative marble paper boards, and top gold gilt edge; 5 raise decorative bands with burgundy and gold gilt title spine.
