1. Views along the Union Pacific Railroad: primarily group portraits of men and women on the excursion at various points along the way including at Camp No. 1, Columbus, Neb., group 275 miles west of Omaha, Oct. 24, 1866, the Elkhorn Club on the banks of the Platte, five men (some of whom are African American): "Kinsley's Brigade," on the banks of the Platte, Commissioners and Directors of the U.P.R.R., a group in front of tents at "Headquarters, Platte City, Oct. 25th, 1866, shadow of the photographer visible, representatives of the press,"The Boys that made us comfortable," guests in front of train and sign marking the 100th meridian, T. C. Durant and heads of Depts., U.P.R.R.; other views include two views of a Pawnee Indian camp, with "mounted Pawnee warriors," view of mounted Pawnee and palace cars of the U.P.R.R.; man (Samuel Reed, Supt. of Construction) standing amid ties that have been laid out into the distance, tracks yet to be laid; view of the train, decorated with elk horns and American flags, at the 100th meridian; a general view of Omaha; construction train and crew.

Durant, Vice President of the Union Pacific, organized the excursion to the 100th meridian for publicity and to impress potential investors who were among the 202 invited guests and their families. Guests included the Earl of Arlie, French diplomats, the Gov. of Nebraska and various men of the "Eastern elite."
