Summary
Track 6: Primitive rhythms commentary (ca. 12 min.). Ted Shawn speaks about his dances Ponca Indian dance; Hopi Indian eagle dance; Sinhalese devil dance; Dayak spear dance; and Maori war haka, including creating the costumes for the Maori war.
Introductory commentary by Ted Shawn for the film Primitive rhythms, recorded in 1951 at Jacob's Pillow. There are five dances, all by Shawn, on the film: Ponca Indian dance (Shawn); Hopi Indian eagle dance (Shawn); Sinhalese devil dance (Shawn); Dayak spear dance (Shawn); Maori war haka (Shawn).
Sound quality is fair. There is some distortion in the voice, and the first ca. 25 sec. are very soft.
