Summary
  1. Documentary account of social dancing from the late 18th century until the ragtime era and the outbreak of World War I. Includes film sequences from newsreels and motion pictures, scenes from historical prints, and demonstrations of various dances by dancers in period costumes. Background sets depict the milieu appropriate to each dance. Dances included are the ländler, waltz, quadrille (Le Pantalon and Hunsdon House), Circassian circle, polka, schottische, Boston, Argentine tango, cakewalk, one step, bunny hug, kangaroo hop, grizzly bear, turkey trot, and fox-trot.
