  1. Excerpts from the 1985 United States Ballroom Championships, held at the Sheraton Hotel in Bar Harbour, Florida. Margaret May Lider interviews John Monte, president of the American Ballroom Company and organizer of the event; judges Bobbie Irvine and Marcel de Ryk; team captains Ronald Williams (U.S.), Shigemi "Woody" Kojima (Japan), and Bill Irvine (Europe); and others. Selected competitors for the Pro/Am Grand Championship, the Amateur Grand Championship, and the Professional Grand Championship are seen, followed by the Marguerite Hanlon and John Ford International Professional Team Match, with teams from Japan, Europe (Denmark, Norway, and England), Canada, and the U.S. Noncompetitive performances include a duet by former champions Rufus Dustin and Sharon Savoy; "Boogie woogie bugle boy," danced by the Brigham Young University Dance Team; and a duet by Ronald Montez and Elizabeth Curtis, marking their retirement from competitive dancing. Dances performed by competitors include the fox-trot, pasodoble, cha-cha-cha, swing, quickstep, bolero, waltz, Viennese waltz, rumba, tango, and jive.
