  1. Tribute to Alvin Ailey. The memorial service includes addresses by mayor-elect of New York City, David Dinkins; poet Maya Angelou; Carmen de Lavallade; Judith Jamison; and Rev. Dr. Robert Polk. Ashford and Simpson perform their song "Remember me"; the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performs excerpts from Ailey's Revelations ("Fix me," "I've been buked," "The day is past and gone," "Rocka my soul"), Love songs ("A song for you"), and Cry. In addition to excerpts from the memorial service, there are tributes by Clive Thompson, William Hammond (executive director of the Ailey company), de Lavallade, Jamison, and Wood, plus historical footage of Ailey in an interview and in performance.
