Summary
  1. Documentary on the history of England's Royal Ballet (formerly the Sadler's Wells Ballet), illustrated with footage of performances by its second company, the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet, recorded during 50th anniversary performances at the Sadler's Wells Theatre and the Royal Opera House in summer 1981. Special emphasis is given to the contributions of the company's founder Ninette de Valois, who discusses the company in interviews and is seen rehearsing revivals of her ballets The rake's progress and Checkmate with dancers David Wall and David Bintley. Other speakers include Sir Robert Helpmann, Sir Frederick Ashton, John Gilpin, Sir Anton Dolin, Leslie French, Dame Alicia Markova, and Lynn Seymour.
