Music arranged by Louis Applebaum. SUMMARY: Motion picture documentary about the 2nd Canadian Ballet Festival, held at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto on March 1-5, 1949. Scenes of the audience and the dancers backstage are interspersed with glimpses of the performances, which included the Ottawa Ballet in Fokine's Les sylphides; the Winnipeg Ballet in Gweneth Lloyd's Visages, to music by Walter Kaufman; and the Volkoff Canadian Ballet in Boris Volkoff's The red ear of corn, to music by John Weinzweig. Most of the performances are not identified. Other participating companies included the Neo-Dance Theatre, Hamilton Ballet, Academy of Ballet, Ruth Sorel Modern Dance Company, Mildred Wickson Ballet, and Toronto Ballet School. - On the spot (approx. 14 min.). A program from the television series. Producer: Bernard Devlin. SUMMARY: Host Fred Davis makes a behind-the-scenes visit to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, where he interviews general manager Henry Guettel and producer/ballet mistress Betty Farrally. The company is seen in a studio rehearsal of Gweneth Lloyd's Chapter 13, to music by Robert Fleming. Brief footage of a children's class is also shown.
