Summary
Bruce Berryhill, a field producer with Delmar Communications in Richmond, Virginia, recounts his experiences with helping dancers improve the ways they present themselves and their works on video. To this end, he team-teaches a class with choreographer Martha Curtis at Virginia Commonwealth University. He discusses the complex collaboration of choreographer and director; the many different levels of video recording, from performance documentation to videodance; the importance of advance preparation (Birgit Cullberg's Red wine in green glasses is cited as an outstanding example); and present-day applications of video, ranging from historical documents to audition tapes.
