- Summary
- Documentary created in celebration of the 45th anniversary of Alicia Alonso's debut in the role of Giselle. Alonso looks back upon her many years of performing Giselle, beginning with her debut in the role with Ballet Theatre in 1943. Among the topics she discusses are the interpretation of her predecessor, Alicia Markova; the importance of the Romantic style; her major partners in the ballet, notably Erik Bruhn and Igor Youskevitch; and memorable performances. The documentary is profusely illustrated with still photographs and archival footage of the ballet, often juxtaposing Alonso's performances at different times of her life. Other dancers appearing in these excerpts include Markova, Anton Dolin, Vladimir Vasiliev, Jorge Esquivel, Youskevitch, and Bruhn.
