Summary

1. Part of a series of interviews with former members of major modern dance and ballet companies. David Anderson and Elizabeth Gottlieb, respectively former members of the San Francisco Ballet and the New York City Ballet, discuss their early training and their experiences in those companies. Anderson, now director of the David Anderson Dance Company in San Antonio, Texas, talks about the encouragement he received as a choreographer, and the work of his colleague Robert Gladstein. Gottlieb, now director of EGG and Dancers, discusses competition in the ballet world, the use of child dancers in New York City Ballet productions such as The nutcracker, and George Balanchine's interaction with students of the School of American Ballet. The program concludes with excerpts from Anderson's The entertainers (music: Al Kooper and Shuggie Otis; costumes: Richie Williamson; danced by Jaclynn Villamil and Ralph Dirienzo) and Gottlieb's Trio.
