Summary

1. Laura Reitman, director of special programs, RCA Select Edition, who trained as a dancer but did not enter upon a professional career, and writer Nancy Reynolds, who retired from dancing after five years with the New York City Ballet, discuss their experiences and the reasons for their decisions. They note the psychological adjustments, such as the change in self-image, that they had to undergo in making the transition, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of leaving the dance world. In her commentary Esoterica balletica, Betty Low recalls a ballet strike by the Original Ballet Russe in Havana in the 1940s. The story of this ballet strike is continued on two further programs: *MGZIC 9-2827 Broadway dance: Development of theater dance; and *MGZIC 9-2828 Broadway dance: Preparing the dancer.
