Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (28 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Three mothers of dancing families, Isabel (Mirrow) Brown, Sally (Streets) Nichols, and Indrani talk about their roles in encouraging their children's talents. Indrani, whose mother Ragini Devi was also a dancer, explains the Indian tradition of handing down artistic professions through the generations. She and Nichols describe the experience of performing alongside their children, respectively Sukanya and Kyra Nichols. Brown tells how her daughter Leslie Browne and her son Ethan became dancers, and mentions the influence of family friend Nora Kaye. The guests also talk about the performing capabilities of older dancers, who are prized in India for their mastery of mime. To open the program, Indrani performs a dance incorporating nine basic movements in Indian dance. In Esoterica balletica, Millicent Hodson describes her use of costumes as clues to movement in her reconstruction of Vaslav Nijinsky's The rite of spring.
