Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Ballet dancers Igor Youskevitch and Eleanor D'Antuono look back over their performing careers. Youskevitch notes how his gymnastic training helped his ballet dancing. He and D'Antuono compare the advantages and disadvantages of starting exceptionally early or late in a ballet career. They discuss the qualities they strove for in performing, and deplore the lacks of today, in comparison to qualities such as the attention to detail shown by Olga Preobrajenska and Alicia Alonso in coaching dancers for the ballet Giselle. In discussing the importance of good rapport between partners, Youskevitch recounts his mishap with Nora Kaye in A streetcar named desire. The program opens with footage of Youskevitch in the Circus section of the film Invitation to the dance. In Esoterica balletica, Margot Webb reminisces about her experiences as half of the interpretive ballroom dancing team of Norton and Margo. She recalls their nightclub performances, and comments upon their encounters with racism in the U.S.
