Summary
  1. Guests are ice skater Robin Cousins and gymnast Toby Towson, who directs the American Acrobatic Dance Theatre (formerly Musawwir). They discuss the athletic and artistic aspects of their respective sports, and the interchange between dance and sports. Cousins describes the innovations of 19th-century skater Jackson Haines, compares ice dancing to other categories of competitive skating, notes the challenges of choreographing for skaters, and discusses his collaboration with choreographer Michael Peters. Towson enumerates the benefits that both gymnasts and dancers could gain through studying each other's techniques, and discusses the problems of choreographing for gymnasts. Recorded excerpts show Cousins in action and choreography by Towson, including Breakthrough and Tapestry. In Esoterica balletica, Elizabeth Streb extols the qualities of athletics and shows an excerpt from her work Runway.
