Summary

1. D. A. Pennebaker, an independent filmmaker, and Kenneth Robins, who has worked as the artistic director for videos involving dance, discuss why they chose dance as a subject and their approaches to recording it. Two excerpts are shown from Pennebaker's Dance Black America, created in collaboration with Chris Hegedus, the first depicting Ostrich, a solo choreographed by Asadata Dafora and danced by Charles Moore, the second depicting Earl "Snake Hips" Tucker in b&w archival footage, followed by Al Perryman's evocation of Tucker. Robins' work is represented by excerpts from Sleeping beauty wakes up at the 10th Street carwash, and Live from lungs (?). In Esoterica balletica, Barry Laine discusses Kenneth Laws' book The physics of dance, which explores how physical laws govern dance movement.
