Summary

1. Dancers Clive Thompson and Dudley Williams talk about various aspects of performing. Thompson recalls his early training in Jamaica, where dance is part of a schoolchild's daily curriculum. He and Williams reminisce about the different ways in which Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey worked with their dancers. Following an excerpt of Rudy Perez's Coverage II, Thompson recalls his experiences in performing it, particularly audience reaction to its political message. Both dancers discuss their pre-performance rituals, and the problem of stage fright. They talk about the physical and psychic changes caused by aging, and the lessons they have learned from their performing careers. Thompson also describes his experiences during two visits to South Africa. In Esoterica balletica, Alwin Nikolais presents an appreciation of Murray Louis's artistry as dancer and choreographer. A brief excerpt shows Louis in action.
