- Summary
- Tap dancers Honi Coles and Gregory Hines discuss various facets of tap dancing. Hines recalls learning to tap at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem; Coles remembers the interchange between dancers at the Hoofers' Club. They note the qualities of a good tap dancer and demonstrate scatting, a vocal accompaniment to teaching and dancing. They discuss innovations such as Coles' introduction of longer phrases, Henry Le Tang's use of repetition to increase the impact of a step, and Hines's design for special miked floors. The program concludes with a b&w excerpt of Coles performing with a partner.
