Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequence; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Historians Sally Sommer and Michael Kirby discuss the contributions of Loie Fuller and the Futurists to stage lighting and design. Sommer recounts Fuller's innovations, among them underlighting, the manipulation of fabrics, the use of aniline dyes and phosphorescence, and describes the technology she used in her Fire dance. A present-day tribute to Fuller, Shela Xoregos' La Loie, is performed by Ellen Kogan. A hand-tinted b&w film features Annabelle Moore, an imitator of Fuller. Kirby discusses the theories of Filippo Marinetti, particularly those expressed in his Futurist manifesto on dance, and describes the achievements of Hubert von Herkomer, Enrico Prampolini, and Giacomo Balla, with special emphasis on the latter's Fireworks, created for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in 1917, and Printing press, his 1914 audition piece. In Esoterica balletica, Frances Becker presents satirical brief biographies of Fuller and Isadora Duncan.
