Summary
Documentary on the tango as a musical form, examining its role as a vehicle of cultural expression for Buenos Aires and the Argentine Republic. Two tango composers, Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Pugliese, are seen in interviews and performances. The history of the tango and its links to the socio-political climate of Argentina is illustrated by archival footage, and the songs of Carlos Gardel and others are remembered. Susana Rinaldi performs tango songs, subtitled in English. The tango as a dance is represented in still photographs and artworks.
