Originally telecast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on L'heure du concert, 1968. For the complete recording, see: *MGZIC 9-1777 Le New York City Ballet. -- Conversation between Farrell and Daniel. Farrell talks about the benefits of taking class, reminisces about her early years at the School of American Ballet, and discusses Balanchine's use of class as an experimental ground for his choreography. She explains some of his points of emphasis, among them the plié, fifth position, tendu, speed of movement, the use of a wide fourth position as preparation for pirouettes and other steps, head movements and épaulement, hand movements, and pointe work. -- Cassette 2 (approx. 16 min.). Farrell discusses Balanchine's experiments with moving backwards, and his use of imagery in class. -- Question and answer period.
