Summary
Third of a five-part series. History of modern dance in Germany, highlighting the choreography and achievements of Rudolf von Laban, Mary Wigman, Kurt Jooss, and Pina Bausch. The discussion explores the impact upon dance of political events in Germany, such as the rise of Nazism and World War II, and parallel developments in art (such as the work of Der Blaue Reiter, Die Brücke, the Dadaists, and the Bauhaus), and film (F.W. Murnau and Josef von Sternberg). Other dance personalities represented in the program are Oskar Schlemmer, Valeska Gert, Yvonne Georgi, Gret Palucca, Harald Kreutzberg, Birgit Cullberg, and Lütz Forster.
