CONTENTS: Cassette 1 (approx. 54 min.): Welcome by Robert Marx, executive director of New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. -- Dance demonstration by Moon, Burnett, LaFortune, and Ninja. -- Panel discussion. Each dancer discusses his/her motivations for dancing and the needs it fulfills, sources of movement ideas, and experiences of the club scene. Ninja also gives a history of voguing. -- Cassette 2 (approx. 42 min.): Video by Michael Schwartz of Character Generators/Video, created with Sally Sommer as part of a project sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts' Dance Heritage Initiative. Introduced by Sommer. All movement in the video is improvised. -- Question and answer period. Topics include the male domination of club dancing, the club scene abroad, warming up for club dancing, learning club dancing, lofting, house music, and the competitive element in club dancing.
