- Description
- 7 videocassettes (U-matic, NTSC) (376 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 3/4 in.
- Summary
- A look at choreographer George Balanchine in the classroom and rehearsal studio, as remembered by his former dancers, students, and others. In informal conversations with Marian Horosko, also a dancer, the participants share anecdotes and reminiscences about Balanchine as choreographer, teacher, coach, conductor, and in private life. The remembrances span his years with Les Ballets 1933, the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Ballet Theatre (later American Ballet Theatre), the Paris Opéra Ballet, and the companies he founded in the U.S.: the American Ballet, American Ballet Caravan, Ballet Society, and New York City Ballet. The talks are interspersed with video excerpts from his ballets, and a continuing biographical narrative presented by Horosko. The program also included excerpts from the documentary Dancing for Mr. B: six Balanchine ballerinas, which could not be videotaped due to rights restrictions.
