The 3rd work is a transcription of Nocturnes op. 15, no. 1 & op. 37, no. 1 by Frédéric Chopin ; the 5th work, based on themes from Giacomo Meyerbeer's Robert le diable, was composed jointly by Chopin and Franchomme ; the Caprices, op. 7, originally for solo violoncello with 2nd 'cello ad lib., are here performed by 2 violoncellos.
  2. The 1st, 4th, and 9th works are for 2 violins, viola, 2 violoncellos, and contrabass; 2nd, 6th, and 8th for two violoncellos; 3rd, 5th, and 7th for violoncello and piano.
