- Summary
- Former New York City Ballet soloist dancer Carol Sumner discusses her early dance training; the first time she saw New York City Ballet perform; taking ballet classes from George Balanchine. She reflects on the importance of tendus; on Balanchine's teaching style; on being chosen to apprentice with the company; on being asked to join the company. She describes her first impression of Balanchine; Balanchine's approach to learning; her impressions of Lincoln Kirstein and her first impression of Jerome Robbins. In closing, she shares her thoughts on the Company's future.
