- Summary
- Dancer-choreographer Erik Bruhn contrasts Bournonville and Russian ballet technique, and recalls teaching his version of Swan lake to Mikhail Baryshnikov. He describes how he reworked the traditional Swan lake, particularly in the characters of the prince and Rothbart, to arrive at what has been called a Freudian interpretation. Discussing his retirement in 1972 and his return to performing character roles in 1976, he describes his changes in viewpoint as a mature dancer, in regard to the roles he wants to perform and the process of coming to terms with diminished physical capacity.
