Summary

1. Documentary on the making of From the horse's mouth, a dance work conceived by Tina Croll and James Cunningham, involving structured improvisation and speeches by performers/choreographers representing "several generations from the modern and post-modern era of modern dance." Recorded at the Joyce SoHo, New York, the documentary opens with scenes from the work's first rehearsals, and continues with numerous excerpts from the performances on April 22-26, 1998. In interviews, participants share their special insights into the piece, relate their experiences during the working process, explain why they accepted the invitation to participate, and discuss the growing acceptance of older performers among audiences today.
