- Summary
- Entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee interviews musical comedy star Ethel Merman, who introduced the role of Gypsy's mother Rose in the 1959 Broadway musical Gypsy. They discuss the production while home movie footage of rehearsals is shown, taken in May 1959 at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York. Featured in this black & white footage, which is silent, are performers Sandra Church and Ethel Merman, director/choreographer Jerome Robbins, composer Jule Styne, and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Gypsy displays her scrapbook of memorabilia from the production. Merman also discusses other projects, such as the upcoming TV production of Annie get your gun, in which she is to reprise her original role from the 1946 Broadway production.
