Summary
  1. Robbins works with Morton Gould on the music for Variations on I'm old fashioned. Robbins and Gould view a videotape of a New York City Ballet studio rehearsal filmed on on Oct. 1 (for this tape, see *MGZIA 4-6050). The following excerpts from Variations on I'm old fashioned appear on the tape: a pas de deux by Kistler and D'Amboise, nicknamed Back to back, which was cut from the final version; the ensemble nicknamed Tango, which was also cut; the fourth variation, also performed by Kistler and D'Amboise; the sixth variation, nicknamed Bongo, performed by Cook; the eighth variation, a pas de deux by Lavery and Nichols.   1. Variations on I'm old fashioned is a ballet tribute to Fred Astaire, with music by Morton Gould, based on Jerome Kern's song I'm old fashioned, from the motion picture You were never lovelier (Columbia, 1942). The ballet premiered on June 16, 1983.
  2. This tape is one of 36 made between Sept. and Nov. 1982 for a projected documentary on the making of I'm old fashioned. DeWitt Sage, Joel Gold and John Goberman were involved in the project, which was never produced.
