Summary

1. Jerome Robbins, assisted by ballet master Jean-Pierre Frohlich, directs a rehearsal of the spring section of Watermill. At the beginning of the tape Robbins talks to the male dancers performing the running section about the way the choreography should be interpreted. An excerpt, from the Youth's entrance to his exit, is rehearsed with many interruptions and repetitions, sometimes without music and sometimes with a recording of the ballet's score. Robbins discusses and demonstrates choreography, concentrating mainly on the role of the Youth. The dancers practice handling kites. Edward Villella, who danced the central role in this production, does not appear in this rehearsal.
