  1. A professionally produced and edited recording of the 1997 New York State Governor's Arts Awards presentation, possibly made for broadcast on television. Preliminary speeches are delivered by Governor George E. Pataki; Bernard Gerstein, director of the Vivian Beaumont Theater; and Earle Mack, director of the New York State Council on the Arts. Awards are presented by Beverly Sills and Roy Goodman to Sandy and Joan Wilde; by Barbara Walters to Arts Connection; by Alex Katz to Chuck Close; by Kurt Vonnegut and Wendy Wasserstein to Just Buffalo Literary Center, directed by Deborah Ott; by Paul Taylor and Joel Grey to Jerome Robbins; by Kathleen Turner to Christopher Reeve; by Arthur Mitchell and Walter Cronkite to Syracuse University director Kenneth Shaw; by Richard J. Schwartz and Wynton Marsalis to Billy Taylor; by Joseph L. Bruno to Silvia Brito. Governor Pataki presents a special award to Kitty Carlisle Hart. Nell Carter performs They all laughed. Dana Reeve performs Some enchanted evening. There is a moment of silence for Roy Lichtenstein, designer of the Governor's Arts Award. Brief prerecorded clips about the recipients is shown during presentation speeches.
