Summary
  1. Documentary on African contemporary dance. After opening commentaries on the central role of dance in African culture, the effects of the African diaspora and the resultant hybridization of dance forms, and the need to preserve tradition while discovering new directions, the documentary spotlights contemporary dance companies from the countries of Congo, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Mali, and Senegal. Their choreographers and artistic directors discuss their individual philosophies and approaches, which are illustrated by performance excerpts.
