Producer and director Joseph Papp is interviewed about his career and the development of the New York Shakespeare Festival and Public Theater. Papp discusses his belief that theater should not be an elitist institution and emphasizes his conviction that the arts are of vital importance to society and culture. He also discusses his approach to interpreting the works of William Shakespeare.
