Summary

1. Television program concerning the making of the New York Memorial Quilt hosted by producer/director Joseph Papp. The quilt which memorializes New Yorkers who have died of AIDS, features individual panels made by loved ones, family members and friends. Individuals contributing panels also write letters about their loved one, some of these are read during the program. The program also includes discussion by panel makers on their subjects. The memorial, currently on view in Central Park, has become part of a larger national memorial called the NAMES project. Remaining discussion includes the background and history of the project, the impact of AIDS on various groups of New Yorkers, and Papp's wish to be able to roll up the quilt and put it away as a symbol of a dark time in history.
