Summary
  1. Jelon Vieira, director of DanceBrazil, presents two lecture-demonstrations on Maculele and Capoiera, Afro-Brazilian dance forms. Both programs are introduced by Liz Thompson, director of Jacob's Pillow. Vieira discusses the history and styles of Maculele and Capoiera, which are demonstrated by the dancers of DanceBrazil. Vieira shows the instruments associated with Capoeira and discusses its relation of the Candomblé religion; how Capoiera is passed down; the chants that accompany dances; and the color-coded levels of mastery. The second program ends abruptly. For a complete recording of the June 6 program with superior sound quality, see *MGZIA 4-7837.
