Summary
  1. Documentary on the work and career of writer, actor and director Steven Berkoff. Filmed on location in London, Paris, and New York, the program follows Berkoff over three months. Program includes interviews with Berkoff and his colleagues, including Roman Polanski, Mikhail Baryshnikov and theatrical producer Joseph Papp who discusses Berkoff's direction of Coriolanus at the Public Theater/Anspacher Theater in 1988. Includes excerpts of Berkoff performing from his various works, including Greek (1980), East (1975), West (1983), Decadence (1981), Harry's Christmas (1986), Metamorphosis (1989), Coriolanus; a television broadcast of Hamlet in Elsinore (1964), and Berkoff directing a rehearsal of Salome, soon to open at National Theater in London. Berkoff discusses his decision to write plays in order to give himself interesting acting roles, his childhood and father's trade as a tailor in London's East End and various aspects of his work and his working methods.
