Jawole Willa Jo Zollar discusses her first experience in dance; segregation; studying with Joseph Stevenson; performing in floor shows; more on her childhood and her love of creating dances; cultural and class issues while growing up; her involvement in social dancing and the relationship of social dancing to jazz dancing; the relationship between traditional jazz dance and the styles performed on Broadway.

Jawole Willa Jo Zollar speaks about returning to college as a dance major; dancing with Milton Myer's group Black Exodus; more on the social and political climate she experienced growing up, particularly with respect to race; more on college; including her interest in acting and theatre and her developing ideas in dance; her education and the atmosphere of intellectual inquiry that existed at that time; attending graduate school at Florida State University and getting further involved with radical politics; her growing awareness of and interest in postmodern dance.
