- Summary
- This program includes two fully staged excerpts from The further adventures of monkey, a theater piece combining music, dance and martial arts, based on elements of Chinese folklore. In an interval between the two excerpts there is a discussion by the creators of the work. Composer and conceptor Fred Ho speaks about his interest in creating a Chinese-American hybrid work, incorporating elements of American pop culture and traditional Chinese opera. Rebecca Lazier and Jose Figueroa demonstrate and discuss the fusion of martial arts and dance in the choreography. Fred Ho presents the Monkey Orchestra, which includes Chinese and Western instruments, and discusses how the instruments represent the characters in the piece; musicians demonstrate instruments and themes.
