Stanley Zompakos and Frederic Franklin, who created their respective roles in George Balanchine's Mozartiana in 1945 for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, coach Nikolaj Hübbe, Julie Kent, and Christopher Barksdale. In the interview sections, Zompakos discusses how Balanchine recreated the gigue role with him, Balanchine's reputation in 1945, and his dance career at New York City Ballet. Franklin discusses Balanchine's approach to ballet compared to Leonide Massine's choreography, the differences between the original and recreated versions of Mozartiana, and how Balanchine used counts.
