- Disc 1 (ca. 60 min.). Lucinda Childs speaks with Don McDonagh about performing on film; group dance pieces, including those with Steve Paxton, Constance West, and others; keeping extensive notes for the dances she creates; growing up in Manhattan; disbanding dance groups after performances are completed; the composition created by Robert Dunn in 1963; working with Dunn in classes; attending Sarah Lawrence, and studying dance classes with Judy Dunn; Yvonne Rainer's influence; Merce Cunningham's influence; working with Robert Morris; past choreographic works, including Cancellation sample, Carnation, Street dance, Screen, and Vehicle; possibility of working and touring with Merce Cunningham but choosing instead to dance with the Judson Dance Theater; dissatisfaction in presenting dances, with limitations on time and venues; working at the Armory in N.Y., and the challenges presented there; feeling disconnected from the dance world, and instead being more connected to the art world; relationship to dance; focusing on major productions, and the time spent preparing for them; the lack of desire in starting her own dance company, and not wanting to put the effort into the endeavor; difficulty in working with dance promoters, and the difference in support between art promoters and those who promote dance; inspiration found in the way in which Merce Cunningham choreographs and presents his works [abrupt end].
