Description
  1. 1 film reel (60 min.) : si. b&w.; 16 mm.
Summary
  1. Caligari is a hypnotist whose somnambulist Cesare, kills the hero's friend and carries off his girl. Having exposed Caligari, the hero himself is revealed as the inmate of a lunatic asylum where Caligari is director. The film's reputation is based on its position in the development of expressionism in the German cinema. The style of design, in particular sets painted flat with distortions of perspective, emphasized by grotesque lighting, became known as "Caligarism" and had a great influence on German films of the next decade.
