- An examination of the Ch'ing dynasty, a three-hundred year rule culminating in challenges from the West in the 19th century (1644 to 1911). Emperor K'ang-hsi with the aid of Manchu troops brought peace to China. Peasant uprisings, the Opium War, internal rebellions and the Sino-Japanese War defeated the Ch'ing regime.
