Summary
  1. Tafia, a young Ojibway girl, is apprehensive about performing a jingle dance at an upcoming powwow in Toronto. Her grandmother Gokmis, tries to reassure her by saying, "When the bird is ready, it will fly." Arriving in Toronto, Tafia and her friend Mavis are separated from their Aunt Lily when a boy steals one of her paintings from the back of the pickup truck. Pursuing the thief, the girls are befriended by a punk rocker, sporting a "Mohawk" haircut. With his aid, they apprehend the boy, retrieve the picture and reunite with Aunt Lily. At the powwow, Tafia dances with the other performers, but is intimidated by their "fancy" appearance. The next day, Gokmis gives her a feather. Feeling the rhythm in her feet, Tafia overcomes her fear and performs the jingle dance to the delight of all.
