- Summary
- Linh Tran, a young Vietnamese immigrant, befriends her neighbor, Jose Aguilar, a Mexican-American, when they discover a mutual interest in flute-playing. Their friendship is threatened, however, when Linh wins the spot in the school band that Jose had been counting on. The resentment of the community towards the Vietnamese adds further strain to the relationship. After Linh's flute is stolen, the friendship falls apart. When they both discover what has happened, the beauty of a shared relationship is caught in the music each plays to the other.
