Summary
  1. In this segment of the Spirit Bay series, Tafia, a young Ojibway girl learns an important lesson concerning the true value of her people's art and heritage. When art dealer Will Little Bear's attempt to buy work from a local man fails, Tafia introduces him to her Aunt Lily, a talented artist. Little Bear purchases some of Lily's paintigs, prompting Tafia and the other children to make their own crafts to sell to tourists. When no one buys their shoddily-made handicrafts, Old Bernard, the medicine man, invites Tafia on a mystical canoe ride. He encourages the young girl to use all of her senses in observing the world around her and points out an ancient rock painting which embodies its own spiritual power. Bernard reveals to Tafia the relationship of dreams to artistic expression and councels her, "If the pictures come from you, they will be right." This experience enables Tafia to recognize her aunt's special talents, making Lily truly "the pride of Spirit Bay."
